Dr. Gary Xiao holds a Master's degree in Biochemistry from China Agricultural University (1992), where he worked with Academician Yan Longfei. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard Medical School, studying metallothionein structure and function under Academician Bert L. Vallee. He completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Enzymology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences under Academician C.L. Tsou in 1995, and later earned a second Master's degree in Biostatistics from UCLA in 2004. Dr. Xiao is licensed in Clinical Laboratory Science and Clinical Pathology in California. Dr. Xiao is a pioneer in studying the mechanisms of inflammation-induced carcinogenesis driven by oxidative stress. He has developed methods to explore metabolic changes in cancer cells and the dynamic flow of biological molecules, focusing on the role of organ and cell regulation in cancer transformation. His research has contributed to advances in cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, particularly in pancreatic cancer. Key contributions include discovering mechanisms of immune microenvironment metabolic reprogramming in pancreatic tumors, the role of SETD2/H3K36me3 and serotonin in pancreatitis-related cancer, and how the OLA1 gene influences drug resistance. He has also applied intelligent chemical materials and immunobiology to improve cancer immunotherapy. Dr. Xiao’s work has led to innovations in early pancreatic tumor detection, including deuterated molecular imaging (DMI) technology, and the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic methods for early-stage cancers and cardiac necrosis.
